Shut up and drive, as Rihanna might say! David Beckham had his driving rights revoked for six months on Thursday, May 9, after being caught using his cell phone while driving. He appeared in court in London today to face the music.

In addition to the driving ban, the former soccer superstar also got slapped with fines totaling about $1,200 and had another six points added to his license, according to the BBC.

Beckham, who is married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, was busted on November 21, 2018, after a member of the public snapped a photo of the world famous athlete holding his phone while driving his Bentley.

“Instead of looking straight forward, paying attention to the road, he appeared to be looking at his lap,” the BBC reports prosecutor Matthew Spratt saying in court. “[The witness] says that the defendant was operating a handheld device at knee level. At that moment, a photograph was taken.”

Beckham’s lawyer, Gerrard Tyrrell, said that the star didn’t remember the day or the incident, but noted, “There is no excuse for what took place, but his view is that he cannot remember. … He’s going to plead guilty, and that’s what he’s done.”
