CHER’s cheerful as LADY GAGA assists AFTER haughty ADELE  dissed the aging superstar! Get the 411 WHY!

Gaga happily stepped in to help the aging superstar with her final career comeback album after the British “Rolling in the Deep” sensation turned her down.

Cher was “over the moon” when Gaga offered up the song, “The Greatest Thing,” as a duet with her for her new album, Cher’s 26th, said an insider.

Cher, 65, first met Gaga at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards when she presented the “Poker Face” singer with the Best Video of the Year award for the single “Bad Romance.”

At the time, Lady Gaga, 26, was wearing a dress that looked like it was made of raw meat which Cher, known for her own wild costumes, could appreciate.

When Cher – incensed by Adele’s snub – got the news that Gaga was going to write a song to sing with her, she tweeted that she could “hardly wait” for “The Greatest Thing” to come out. She added that she’d been “excited about making the new CD” and was delightfully surprised when Gaga offered to do the duet.

On the other hand, Cher has nothing but disdain for 23-year-old Adele.

“Cher would have moved mountains to get Adele to write her a song or just sing a chorus on her album, but Adele wouldn’t even return her calls,” said the insider. “Cher is acting as if she doesn’t care about Adele’s rejection, but deep down she’s absolutely fuming!”

Despite Gaga’s help, Cher’s new album – her first since “Living Proof ” in 2001 – has been beset by delays.

When asked on Twitter in January whether the project was finished, Cher replied: “God no, but it will be out this year, maybe to coincide with (cross our fingers) Tour?!”

But now the tour’s start date of May or June has been pushed back to September.

Still, Cher is determined to finish the album and head off on tour because she wants to cement her place in pop music history.

“Cher’s thrilled that Gaga stepped up to help,” said the insider. “But she’s insulted that Adele has no interest in contributing.”
