SPECIAL INVESTIGATION: VILE VETS

A shameless brigade of phony soldiers is invading the U.S., and the real heroes are declaring war on them, an investigation by The National ENQUIRER has revealed.

Thousands of uniformed hucksters are looking for free meals, airline upgrades, romance and even benefits from the Dept. of Veterans affairs.

“It’s an epidemic!” declared army staff Sgt. Anthony Anderson, who outs people he thinks are impostors on his website, Guardian of Valor.

“In the past couple of years it’s gotten worse because the war is winding down and the military are coming back home.”

Many impostors hang out at airports, malls and events that attract crowds so they can get “attaboy” pats on the back.

Others exaggerate their record by claiming to have been wounded. Anderson said he receives so many reports of fakes he can barely keep up.

The federal government prosecutes impostors who obtain “tangible benefits” using fake valor medals. Several states have stricter laws that allow easier prosecution of fakes, according to Gulf War veteran John Lilyea, who runs a website called “This ain’t hell,” which has identified about 180 dirtbags.

“These people are the lowest form of human life,” he said.
