A savage monster will spend the rest of his life behind bars for violently murdering — and disemboweling — his girlfriend after she blurted out her es- tranged husband’s name during sex.
Fidel Lopez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and sexual battery to avoid the death penalty and has no chance at parole.
Lopez had called 911 from his Florida apartment, and cops found him bawling in the bathroom next to the mutilated body of girlfriend Maria Nemeth. Police say Lopez became enraged after Maria, 31, called out her spouse’s name while they were intimate.
“She called me the name of the other f- –ing guy,” he told investigators. “And she said it twice … At that point, I get mad. I get really, really mad.”
He punched holes in the wall and smashed things — then attacked Maria, who had passed out after too many drinks.
Police say Lopez’s disturbing assault began sexually with foreign objects and then ended when he reached inside her body and brutally ripped out some of her intestines. When he realized she had stopped breathing, he splashed water on her face, then called for help after she didn’t wake up.
After cops responded and saw the gory scene, Lopez tried to pass off the horrific crime as a case of rough sex gone wrong, but he was quickly arrested by stunned and sickened lawmen.
“I know that what I did has to be paid [for] … I will pay with my life for the life I took,” said Lopez. “To Maria’s family, I ask forgiveness.”
