He planned. He waited. He pounced.

Then, cops say, after raping and nearly killing a college co-ed in her off-campus apartment, he apologized.

Sources tell The National ENQUIRER that police identified the pervert within 48 hours, and launched a massive manhunt that stretched from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., to Mexico.

According to authorities, Edibaldo “Eddie” Duran, a 5-foot-2 Mexican national, crept into the 21-year-old senior’s bedroom about 2 a.m. on Sept. 1.

“Have you seen my dog?” Duran creepily asked, prompting the terrified woman to scream.

That’s when the violent sex fiend punched and choked her, causing her to pass out, say police.

When the victim came to, Duran forced her to perform oral sex and raped her, police said.

Later she told cops he whispered, “I’m sorry,” before taking off down the block.

Within 48 hours, detectives identified Duran using DNA from his semen and a sketch drawn with the help of the courageous victim.

Duran had been staying at a home on the same block as his victim, police say. He worked as a landscaper and in a local hookah shop, and was known to local cops for minor nuisances. The night before the attack, investigators revealed, he shaved his goatee in preparation for going on the lam. Authorities believe he was trying to make his way back to Mexico.

But police told The ENQUIRER that they fear he’ll rape again.

“This type of offender will likely offend again,” Fairfield Detective Kerry Dalling said.

“He likely has done his share of window peeping and other sexually motivated crimes. We need to find him before anyone else gets hurt.”
