A news crew was present when Carter, 92, announced "I'm tired" before calling for a chair while working . He was put in an ambulance shortly afterwards. The Carter Center later released a statement that he “was dehydrated working in the hot sun” and that Carter “told us he’s OK.”

His wife Rosalyn was also working at the site, and joined her husband at the Winnipeg hospital Carter has been tireless since leaving office in 1981. In addition to his work with Habitat for Humanity, he's toured the world as a global mediator and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
