Anthony Michael Hall dodged seven years of prison for attacking a neighbor at his L.A. condo — in the latest assault case involving the ex-nerd from "The Breakfast Club!"

Anthony (seen here with "Breakfast Club" costar
Judd Nelson) agreed to 40 hours of community service after he was convicted for going berserk and breaking the wrist of Richard Samson. The two had been arguing over an unlocked gate to the condo complex in Playa del Rey, Calif. But that wasn't the first time that Anthony flipped out on his neighbors.

Samson had spoken out about Anthony back in 2011, when the unhinged actor had been arrested for threatening to
beat another neighbor "to a pulp" after Anthony was seen digging up plants in the condo's common grounds. "Hall is a crazy bastard!" Samson said."He's bipolar and never takes his meds. Everyone is scared of him!"

Samson warned at the time that the actor was a menace to his fellow condo residents: "We've complained to the management and the homeowners association and they haven't done anything," he said — adding: "He's been like this with all the neighbors when he has too much to drink."

While filming his series "The Dead Zone" in 2002, Anthony had to be admitted to a hospital after an "episode of bipolar affective disorder depression with psychotic features," according to a lawsuit by the show's insurer — who said the star hadn't disclosed his illness.
The court filing also revealed he had stopped taking his medications. And while Anthony found fame as a geek in '80s hits such as "Sixteen Candles" and "Weird Science," he packed on plenty of muscle as an adult!

Anthony was also accused of viciously assaulting his ex-girlfriend
Diana Falzone at her New York apartment in 2009 after trying to kick in the door. The relationship expert claimed that Anthony had smashed her head against a wall after she finally let him into her home. He was
barred by court order from "stalking" or "menacing" the gorgeous brunette.

Sadly, Anthony (seen here in 1984 with
Robert Downey Jr. and
David Lee Roth) has also admitted to a long history of boozing and violence — going back to his days as a child actor. He's said that he began drinking heavily at age 13 — confessing: "I sometimes got in fights and punched people."
