EX New Jersey Governor JON CORZINE – the billionaire pal of celebrities like George Clooney and Jon Bon Jovi – will be fingered as the next Bernie Madoff, insiders believe.
Experts say Corzine will likely face criminal fraud charges in a $1.2 billion financial fiasco involving the collapse of MF Global, the brokerage firm he headed. And it’s likely there are some very red faces in Hollywood.
Rocker Jon Bon Jovi stumped and sang for Corzine’s 2009 re-election campaign. In fact, one of his concerts in Newark raised more than $2 million for the cause – and the legendary musician did not charge for his appearance, say insiders.
Even after Corzine lost re-election, fellow Democrat George Clooney invited him to a movie premiere.
And now even old political ally Barack Obama is distancing himself from the businessman-turned-politician, say insiders.
“The president’s advisers say Corzine could be headed down the same road as disgraced financier Bernie Madoff,” revealed a Capitol Hill political source.
“The president is not taking his phone calls and does not want to be associated with him” – even though it’s believed Corzine raised at least a half-million dollars for Obama’s 2012 re-election effort.
The veteran New Jersey politician – who also served in the U.S. Senate and headed the giant investment firm Goldman Sachs – is in hot water because MF Global reportedly lost $1.2 billion of its clients’ money.
“It was a cardinal sin – the one thing you don’t do is touch your customers’ money,” blasted financial columnist Jeff Carter. “What he did was no different than bank robbery!”
