DADDY DEAREST DEPT.: Now that BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE are pulling the plug on their relationship after his confession that he’s carrying on a secret relationship with ex-wife JENNIFER ANISTON, as reported by The ENQUIRER, Brad’s raging that Angie’s back-in-the-picture dad, JON VOIGHT, made things worse by poisoning his lover’s mind against him – even though good-guy Brad engineered their reconciliation after years of estrangement.
“Brad says Jon cut the legs out from under him with Angie,” said an insider. Added a family friend: “He’d say to his daughter, ‘Are you happy, baby? Because I sense that you aren’t.’ Jon kept urging Angie to shake up her life and choose the path she really wants. Brad knew what was happening because Angie was always quick to report her father’s words.”
Said one source: “Brad’s seething. He’s the one who kept sending Jon baby photos of their kids when Angie and her dad were on the outs. And he continually pestered her to mend fences with Jon. But now Brad’s like: ‘This is the thanks I get?’”
Realizing Jon was poisoning their relationship, he confronted Angie. “But she’d just laugh and tell him, ‘I told you what he was like!’ Now Brad believes Jon wanted to break up their family.”
Voight’s motive? Insiders say the long-faded actor, cut out of Angelina’s life as she rocketed to the top of the Hollywood heap, covets the power, prestige (and plum acting jobs?) that come with being in his little superstar’s inner circle.
“Brad just can’t win with Angelina’s family,” said the friend. “He’s tolerated her brother, JAMES HAVEN, being in their lives, but there’s no love lost there. James is very territorial when it comes to his sister. He was always trying to drive a wedge between her and Brad. And because James professes to be an actor, even though he’s lower than D-list, he was always resentful of Brad’s stardom.”
In early 2009, this column reported trouble brewing – and now it’s come to a boil. I wrote: “Angelina’s phoning Voight constantly, crying on his shoulder that Brad’s blaming her for neglecting him in favor of their six kids and her career.”
