ROBERT DOWNEY JR. FORMALLY CHARGED

Just four months after his release from a California jail, Robert Downey Jr. once again faces criminal charges for alleged drug use.

Prosecutors filed two felony charges against the actor Monday, as well as a misdemeanor. According to Riverside County District Attorney Sue F. Steding, the down-and-out-actor could face six years in jail for the felonies, a year for the misdemeanor and an additional year because he’s served a state prison term in the past.

Downey’s attorney, Alan Nierob, says his client will plead innocent at the Dec. 27 arraignment.

Downey was arrested in Palm Springs on Nov. 25, and has been charged with felony possession of cocaine and the tranquilizer diazepam. The misdemeanor charge is for being under the inf;uence of a controlled substance at the time of the arrest.
