Michael Cuccione, a member of MTV’s boy-band spoof, “2gether,” died this weekend of respiratory complications. He was 16.
Dubbed “the cute one” on the MTV series, Michael played Jason “Q.T.” McKnight. Although the group was started to mock boy bands like ‘N Sync and Backstreet Boys, 2gether found their own following and even opened for Britney Spears when she toured.
They put out two successful albums, one of which landed at No. 26 on the Billboard charts in its first week of sales.
The dark-haired actor/singer battled cancer as a child, and the chemotherapy treatments he endured weakened his lungs severely. He contracted pneumonia last month after a car accident and was unable to fight off the infection.
“He was in a lot of pain,” his mom told ABCNews.com. “I didn’t realize how much he was suffering because he hid it with a smile. I think God knew he was suffering too much.”
