The Academy Awards must go on without Billy Crystal this year. The seven-time host of the ceremony has announced he’ll be unable to emcee due to his hectic schedule.
“I just can’t do it, you have to understand,” the comedian explained to Fox News. “If everything goes according to plan, I’ll just be finishing a new movie on March 22. I can’t host the show five days later.”
The veteran funnyman and Saturday Night Live alumni is hard at work on the film “America’s Sweethearts” starring Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones. While Crystal won’t be appearing at this year’s Oscars, he did offer a few suggestions.
“The need someone associated with the movies,” he said. “It should be Jim Carrey.”
Other names mentioned, should Carrey not be interested or available, include Jay Leno and David Letterman. Whoopi Goldberg is out of the picture, however, as she’s vowed never to host the show again.
