That’s because legal experts say it may be the only way the evil creep will face American justice for murdering the Alabama teen!
Joran now plans to plead temporary insanity in the murder of Peruvian college student Stephany Flores – a legal move that could reduce his prison sentence from a stiff 35 years to just five years.
But if he escapes with just a short jail term in Peru, Joran could face the death penalty in the United States sooner rather than later, experts say.
"A lesser sentence in Peru would be the best thing," attorney Michael Griffith, a senior partner at the International Legal Defense Counsel and an expert on the Holloway case, told The ENQUIRER.
"It would mean U.S. prosecutors won’t have to wait decades for van der Sloot to face justice on American soil." In fact, as soon as he is released from prison in Peru, he could be extradited to the U.S. and face murder charges for killing Natalee.
Joran, 23, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. last year for wire fraud and extortion after he tried to shake down Natalee’s mother for $250,000 in exchange for information on her death and the location of her body.
