CHRISTIE BRINKLEY called her fourth husband everything from "a pervert" to "an unfit father" during their contentious child custody battle and divorce – but she’s now beseeching him to take the kids off her hands, The ENQUIRER has learned!
The 57-year-old supermodel – who was awarded sole custody of Sailor, 12, and Jack, 15 – has done a complete turnaround and wants ex-hubby Peter Cook to watch the kids for FOUR MONTHS so she can make her debut on Broadway.
In 2006, Christie ended her decade-long marriage with Peter, 51, after learning he’d been cheating with his then-19-year-old assistant and found risque photos of the teen on his computer.
She spent the following two years battling him in court over their $60 million fortune and for sole custody of the kids.
"There was a long period of time when she didn’t even want the children to be left alone with Peter or for him to be able to see them at all," a source told The ENQUIRER.
"Christie did win custody, but Peter has been seeing them, just not nearly as much as he’d like."
But now that she’s landed the role of Roxie Hart for an 11-week engagement with "Chicago," Christie has done a complete about-face, says the source.
"She is scrambling to make nice with Peter so he’d agree to keep the kids for four months.
"Peter is actually thrilled that he’ll have the children for that long, but he’s also glad that people will finally see that Christie is OK with having her kids stay with the same man she’s spent so long trying to depict as such a horrible father."
