WHITNEY HOUSTON has died suddenly at age 48. The ENQUIRER has the EXCLUSIVE story AND PHOTOS of her shocking collapse in our newest issue now on newsstands.

Whitney Houston, whose reign as the queen of pop until her voice and image were ravaged by repeated drug use, erratic behavior and a devastating marriage to Bobby Brown, died at 48.

Houston was once the golden girl of the music industry at her peak. From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world's best-selling artists.

As The ENQUIRER had reported previously Whitney plummeted down the slippery slope of drugs as her music sales nose dived.

She publicly confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills.

Whitney’s publicist Kristen Foster confirmed the singer’s death but the cause of death was not divulged.

At a press conference, LAPD said that at 3:23 P.M. they received a 911 call from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

EMTs rushed to the scene and tried to resuscitate her in the hotel room on fourth floor.

Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.

It was reported earlier this weekend that Whitney was in talks to join “The X Factor” as a judge.
