Embattled Subway poster boy JARED FOGLE has socked away a hefty $15 million fortune from ad campaigns touting him as a role model for American families.
One commercial – now yanked off the air – even showcased his happy home life.
But with Jared now targeted as a suspect in a child porn probe, The National ENQUIRER can reveal that he is hiding a sordid past.
According to exclusively obtained documents from their 2008 divorce, his first wife, Elizabeth, walked away at the height of Jared’s success, and took more than half his net worth!
Elizabeth was miserable in the marriage, and Jared, 37, was often seen belittling and abusing her in public, sources close to the couple exclusively told The ENQUIRER.
“He became controlling and had a mean streak in him,” said an insider.
The couple met while students at Indiana University, where Elizabeth witnessed Jared’s sleazy operation of an adult film emporium.
He owned a “vast and extensive” porn collection, and rented the videos for a dollar a day.
“Guys would come from all over to take advantage of the deal,” a source said.
Elizabeth’s divorce agreement does not bind her to silence, and New York matrimonial lawyer, Raoul Felder, said that may come back to haunt Jared.
Raoul believes his ex-wife could be a damaging witness in the sentencing phase of a child pornography prosecution.
He said: “If they charge Fogle and he were to be convicted, she could reveal devastating details about his past.” Those details could lock him away for a long time.
