Richard Simmons was hospitalized on Monday, April 17 — having to give up his reclusive ways over a battle with what his spokesman described as “severe indigestion and discomfort while eating.”
Michael Catalano added: “We agreed it was best for him to seek treatment.”
The health crisis was an unfortunate way for Simmons to finally emerge from his Hollywood mansion, and came in the midst of what could be a carefully orchestrated return to the public eye.

After shocking his fans by turning away from fame and staying away from his Los Angeles gym, Simmons made a surprise announcement in early April that he was considering a comeback at 68 years old — with a new business deal involving “merchandising, endorsements and licensing opportunities.”
Catalano quickly assured fans that Simmons was still ready to get back into the spotlight, saying: “He’s already feeling better, and is expected to make a full recovery.”
