A sake house north of Tokyo has two hard working macaque chimps serving up beer and hot towels – and they legally only work two hours a day.
Karou Otsuka, the tavern owner and chimp keeper, revealed, “It all started when one day I gave him a hot towel out of curiosity and he brought the towel to the customer."
The delighted customers tip the waiters with edamame – salty soy beans.
"We called out for more beer just then and it brought us some beer! It’s amazing how it seems to understand human words," laughed Miho Takikawa, who downed the simian dispensed sake.
Fearing a drop in customers when the chimps are off duty, owner Otsuka is training three new baby monkeys to keep the hot towels and sake coming.
