New bio: Hollywood legend David Niven driven to depths of despair, attempts to blow his brains out!!

Details of the Pink Panther and Casino Royale star’s depression and attempt at "snuffing it" are revealed in shocking new bio David Niven: The Man Behind The Balloon.

Niven told biographer Michael Munn that he had lost all "sense of reason" after the death of his wife Primmie, admitting "I decided to blow my brains out."

In the book, Niven said, "I took a gun and put the barrel in my mouth and with barely a thought for my children, which was unforgivable, I pulled the trigger.

"And the bloody thing didn’t fire."

The shock jolted the suave star out of his temporary insanity who died in September 1983 of natural causes never knowing why the loaded pistol didn’t fire.

"I think I may have actually thought that this might be God telling me to carry on living for the sake of my children," Niven is quoted as saying.
