MARGO MARTINDALE – star of the hit new sitcom “The Millers” – is still reeling from the totally unexpected loss of her beloved brother Bobby following simple surgery.

Sources say the veteran actress, who plays overprotective mom Carol Miller on the CBS show, has never been the same emotionally since her older sibling died at age 58 nine years ago.

“It was really shocking and hard,” a still-grieving Margo told an interviewer.

Bobby had undergone outpatient surgery for a hernia, and at first everything seemed to go well.

“He called me when he got home and said, ‘I’m tired. I’ll call you tomorrow,’” recalled the actress.

But tomorrow never came for the big brother who meant so much to her. He died of complications from the surgery.

“Margo was very close to him and was unprepared for his sudden death,” a friend told The ENQUIRER. “It devastated her and she’s never been able to fully recover. I’m sure he’s watching from above and is happy for her newfound success on the show.”

Margo is winning raves in the sitcom, which revolves around a divorced man whose parents split up, and his mom (Margo) moves in with him.

The 62-year-old star – who’s been happily married for 27 years to musician Bill Boals – first caught the public eye as Mags Bennett, matriarch of the hillbilly crime family in the FX series “Justified,” which earned her an Emmy Award. And she’s delighted that her close friend, Oscar winner Kathy Bates, talked her into doing “The Millers.”

Said the source: “Kathy told her, ‘You’re one of the funniest women I know. Now you get to show it!’
