Late-night rivals David Letterman and Jay Leno may reunite for the end of CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman!”

Dave wants the former “Tonight Show” host as one of his final guests, but decades of bad blood still have to be resolved, The National ENQUIRER has learned.

“There’s a hint of shuttle diplomacy here,” said an insider. “We’re hoping a deal gets done.”

Jay was a genial host who rarely mentioned his late-night competition, but a bitter Dave never forgave him for taking over as host of “The Tonight Show.”

Dave, 67, considered that a betrayal of both himself – and of Johnny Carson, who had made it clear to Jay that he wanted Dave to take over “The Tonight Show.”

Over the years, Dave has viciously mocked Jay from the desk of his CBS show.

Talks between “Late Show” producers and Jay’s reps have been ongoing since before Dave announced his retirement last April.  A rep for Dave confirmed to The ENQUIRER that “an offer [to Jay] was extended a while back.”

In 2014, Jay, 64, reportedly said: “That could happen – why not? It’s certainly a possibility. Some of my best moments were doing [‘Late Night’] with Dave.”

Jay then played coy in January.
