Jessica Simpson wants to follow Angelina Jolie‘s example and adopt a child before she gives birth to one of her own.
The divorcing 25-year-old beauty said: “I think Angelina Jolie has done amazing, amazing things, and the international adoption rate since her has skyrocketed.
“It’s unbelievable. I want to adopt and I plan to adopt before I have my own kids.”
Jessica, who split from singer husband Nick Lachey in December after three years of marriage, earned more than $30 million in 2005. She is set for another bumper year with her new comedy Employee Of The Month, which she is filming in New Mexico.
But, like UN goodwill ambassador Angelina, Jessica is now turning her gaze to politics and adopting a child after visiting children in Africa. She spoke to congressmen in Washington on March 16 about Operation Smile, a charity offering free surgical corrections to children with facial deformities.
She said: “I have always loved the children. I actually went to Africa and got to be in on one of the surgeries and it was so amazing. These kids just change your life and change your perspective.”
The Dukes Of Hazzard star plans to speak in person to President Bush soon about a program making it easier to adopt children from foreign countries.
She said: “I’m just so excited because the President asked for a special meeting. We’re going to sit down face to face and we’re going to talk about children.
“I want to set up this whole orphanage and adoption organization. I just really want to bring awareness to interracial adoption.”
Angelina, 30, who is expecting her first biological child with Brad Pitt, has two adopted children — Cambodian-born Maddox, four, and Zahara, one, from Ethiopia.
