ANDY ROONEY, the cranky old sage of 60 MINUTES, dead at 92.
Rooney, who as a journo-cum-curmudgeon spoke about the hypocrisy and absurdity of modern life spending more than 30 years dishing out wry commentary for the CBS TV news mag, died last night.
Just a month ago, Rooney delivered his last regular essay on the Sunday night news staple.
CBS said he died in New York from complications from a recent surgery.
Rooney began his "60 Minutes" commentaries in 1978 and was still at it three decades later, winning three Emmy Awards for his wit AND wisdom.
