Ellen DeGeneres really put her wife Portia de Rossi on the spot when she quizzed her about having a child on her talk show last month!
Experts told The National ENQUIRER the interview exposed “emotional tension between the two,” confirming reports of marriage woes that could possibly lead to a nasty $220 million divorce.
Sources say they believe Ellen, 56, is desperate to keep her marriage problems secret because she believes hundreds of millions of dollars could be at stake.
Body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass analyzed the telecast: “An uncomfortable, awkward Portia looked like she wanted to be anywhere else. She was fiddling with her fingers.”
During the show, which aired Oct. 14, Ellen joked to Portia, 41, about fans’ anger at the couple not having a baby. And she threw the ball to Portia – putting her on the spot.
“Are people really THAT mad at us?” Portia asked. “Yeah, we’ve waited way too long,” Ellen said. Dr. Glass noted that Portia’s body language revealed it was anything but funny to her.
“The body doesn’t lie,” she said. “Portia has a lot of tension around Ellen. She plays with her wedding ring, meaning discomfort. Also when Portia laughs, it seems phony. It’s very contrived and there is a lot of emotional tension between the two.
“What seemed clear to me from her body language was that Ellen did not want to have a baby … and she expected Portia to feel the same way.”
The ENQUIRER previously revealed that Ellen bought Portia a $16 million “love nest” after Portia checked into a Malibu rehab in May for drug and alcohol abuse – the stress nearly destroying their six-year marriage.
“Ellen’s all about her image,” a source said. “She holds the purse strings and Portia knows it in no uncertain terms!”
Celeb author Randy Jernigan said: “Ellen has a deep love for Portia, and Portia returns that love and affection. The problem is they never really learned how to give and take.
“If Ellen put her relationship first, they could work through anything. She doesn’t do that because she has her own agenda and is afraid of losing her. She seems insecure and jealous.”
Another source added, “Portia is convinced that Ellen has had crushes on many other women and may have acted on them for real.” “Ellen is trying to save face,” a pal close to the talk show host confided. “She’s all about making deals and making money. The last thing she wants is something to go wrong with the launch of her new lifestyle brand E.D.
“Yes, Ellen and Portia are having huge martial problems, but they, well, Ellen really, is taking every precaution necessary to put a lid on it. “There’s a lot at stake with the launch of E.D and a $220 million divorce is the last thing she wants on her hands!”
