DEXTER SMITS KNIFE HORROR

description

"I waited for the pain and for the blood to flow …"

In his own words, actor Jeff Chase tells The ENQUIRER when Dexter star Jimmy Smits stabbed at his heart with a real, Rambo-style knife.

The incident was part of a scene gone horribly wrong when Jimmy was supposed to stab Jeff with a fake prop knife – but picked up a real one by mistake.

Smits struck with the knife as 40-year-old Jeff thought: "This is what it’s like to die!

"For the scene, I was bound in Saran Wrap, duct tape over my mouth. I couldn’t say a thing as I saw Jimmy grab at the knife. He picked up the real one by mistake instead of the prop knife.

"It was a mean-looking knife – a Rambo weapon with a blade over six inches long with a sharp, pointed tip.

"I heard fellow actor Michael C. Hall yelling at Jimmy to stop – but it was too late. I felt the thud in my chest. I didn’t have on a metal breast plate like a lot of actors do in a scene like that.

"Instead I had a piece of acrylic clear plastic about the size of a small Post-it note over my heart.

"It was about a quarter-inch thick and not attached. It was there to take the blow of the fake knife. But in eight out of 10 takes with the prop knife, Jimmy had missed the plastic!

"Now I see him holding the REAL knife – about to plunge it in me.

"I hear Michael yelling, ‘Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it!’ in a blood-curdling voice.

"Then I feel the impact!

"After the blow, I waited for the pain and for the blood to flow.

"Jimmy and Michael and everyone else around in a panic tore off the wrap and the duct tape. I didn’t have a scratch!"
