Russkie punkers PUSSY RIOT found guilty of “hooliganism”– stars take to Twitter AND the streets in protest!

Today a Russian court convicted Pussy Riot punk band babes– Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29 — for reciting a "punk prayer" slamming bear wrestling Russian President Vladimir Putin during a 30 second perf at a cathedral in February.

They were sentenced to two years in jail sparking worldwide protest and Twtter rage despite the support of such notables as Paul McCartney and Madonna.

“It's a sad day because I actually love Russia! What's happening to this great nation that it's afraid of poofs, Madonna and pussy!" Boy George Tweeted.

Ex-Dancing With the Stars contestant  and tennis champ Martina Navratilova denounced the sentencing with sarcasm, "Today is free pussy riot day. How great is that? Democracy at its best. And by imprisoning them, Putin is making it so much a bigger deal!!!"

Hobbit at large Elijah Wood Tweeted: "a shame to hear the Pussy Riot were found guilty, but not surprised. I truly hope their sentence is minimal. #freepussyriot."

Meanwhile actual protest of smash mobs hit the Russian Embassy in the UK and in Moscow – among those busted by police was former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov who was reportedly beaten by cops.

Despite electing strongman Vlad Putin to office as President, it’s pretty evident that “free speech” in Russia is about as free as it was under the commies.
