Beloved children’s book author of iconic BERENSTAIN BEAR book series, JAN BERENSTAIN, has gone into permanent hibernation at 88.

Jan who co-created the long running series with her husband, STAN,  wrote and illustrated the preschool charmers for over 50 years.

Berenstain suffered a severe stroke at her Solebury, Penn. home and never recovered, her son Mike told media.

The couple’s first Berenstain book, “The Big Honey Hunt”, first hit book shelves back in 1962 and was a resounding success.

To date over 300 Berenstain Bears titles have been released in 23 languages worldwide and are a rite of passage to the entire “I Can Read” generation.

“They say jokes don’t travel well but family humor does,” Jan once said in an interview.
