Arnold has turned to an unlikely source for help to win back Maria Shriver – Maria’s “soul mate,” handsome Hollywood interior designer David Phoenix.
Maria first met David years ago at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, where he worked cataloging fabric samples. Maria enlisted his help at her office, and she liked his work so much that he became the designer of choice for her and her late mother Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
And Arnold knows David as well. The former California governor appointed him to serve as commissioner of a group that oversees the preservation of California’s historical buildings.
Maria’s friendship with David grew more intimate over the last year as her relationship with Arnold began to crumble, and she started turning to the 44-year-old designer – who is openly gay – for emotional support.
“Maria had been unhappy for so long, and it was David who gave her a shoulder to cry on,” said the insider. “He’s been her pillar of support, helping her through what has been one of the most difficult periods of her life.”
Now Arnold is looking to capitalize on David’s close bond with Maria, 55, in the hopes of putting his broken marriage and family back together.
“Arnold insists he would never hurt Maria again – and he wants David to play peacemaker,” divulged the insider. “He’s promised Maria that he’ll be a more attentive husband and father if she’ll give him a second chance.”
Arnold’s inattentiveness was one of the most serious problems in their marriage, contends the insider. Meanwhile, David has been by Maria’s side every step of the way.
“When Arnold was the governor of California, he was always too busy for Maria,” the insider added. “David, on the other hand, always makes time for her. They talk about the things they both love – design, home furnishing, her kids.
“Now Arnold thinks David may be the one who can help him put his broken family back together.”
