The 50th anniversary of “Days of Our Lives” is being marked by a shocking bloodbath!

In a blockbuster exclusive, The ENQUIRER can reveal TWO favorite stars are being killed off the NBC soap.

Insiders revealed one of the actors asked to be axed — and the other, tragically, was given the shove.

When Peter Reckell, 60, who’s played Bo Brady on and off since 1983, left the show three years ago, he swore he’d never return, said a source.

“But this year, he finally relented—but with one stipulation,” dished the source.

“He’d only play Bo for a short run, and producers had to kill him off for good!

“Although he is still being seen on the show because it tapes four months ahead, his death scene is in the bag. He is finished.”

Meanwhile, fan favorite Joe Mascolo, who portrays villain Stefano DiMera, got his walking papers.

Mascolo, 86, who joined the cast in 1982, has suffered health woes this year, including a secret hospitalization, says the source.

As a result, Joe, who uses a wheelchair and a walker, worked only two days a week, said the insider, who noted the actor had a hard time remembering his lines.

“Producers decided they had to let him go,” said the insider.

“It was tough for execs to break the news to him. “And it was a very sad day when he taped his gruesome death scene, which is yet to air.”

But in true soap tradition, producers changed their minds two weeks later.

The insider said: “The Stefano character is coming back from the dead—as a ghost!”
