A Pennsylvania mayor is warning women to be vigilant amid reports of young men shooting women with stun guns and air pistols in the area.

Wilkinsburg Mayor Dontae Comans on Thursday issued the warning on social media, urging local women to walk in pairs or groups, especially at night.

“Our law enforcement partners have shared concerning intel regarding young males targeting women by shooting at them with stun guns, air pistols, and BB guns,” Comans said. “These senseless acts are not only dangerous, but they also threaten the safety and peace of our community.”

Wilkinsburg is in western Pennsylvania, less then 10 miles east of Pittsburgh. Comans warned women in the area to stay alert and aware of their surroundings at all times, and if possible, to avoid walking alone, especially after dark or in less populated areas.

Anyone who witnesses or has information about the reported activity is asked to call 911 or the local police department.

“Our officers will be increasing patrols to ensure public safety and to deter this reckless behavior. We are committed to protecting our residents especially our women, and holding those responsible accountable,” Comans said. “Lets continue looking out for one another. Safety is a shared responsibility.”
