19-day hospitalization for apparent alcohol poisoning. “It definitely could be foul play!” Chicago cop-turned-private eye

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said the death of the two-foot-eight dwarf remains under investigation, pending toxicology test results. “This should be looked at very carefully,” said former New York Police Department homicide detective Bo Dietl.

Meanwhile, Hubel noted that Verne’s upbeat social media posts before his death indicated a cheerful man who’d spent time with pals. But he did suggest a possible motive. “According to our information, he’s had apparent conflict with the little person community,” Hubel said.

“Can you intentionally poison someone with alcohol? You can,” Hubel declared. “This is a small man. Anyone can take control of him. You take a hot water bottle with a little hose and you shove it down his throat and force-feed him a lot of alcohol.

“But it didn’t look like you needed to force-feed this guy alcohol, since
he’s a known drunk,” Hubel added. “You can just give him more and more and say, ‘Drink up!’ and then slip him a barbiturate. This is where the tox report comes in. Foul play is certainly within the realm of possibility.”
