Earlier this year, his throat was so ravaged Val could only speak in hushed tones. But he recently gained weight and was declared well enough to join the “Top Gun” follow-up with co-star Tom Cruise.

“We’ve had so much fun acting together again after all these years,” Val gushed about reuniting with Tom. “Boy, what a thrill!”
