Horrified airplane passengers waiting to take off from Chicago on April 9 witnessed a nightmare scenario as a security team dragged a man off the overbooked plane — to clear his seat for an airline employee! United Airlines is now facing a PR disaster after troubling footage was shot of police literally dragging a medical doctor off of an airplane bound for Louisville, Ky.
In this footage filmed by one outraged passenger, a three-man airport security detail can be seen throwing the screaming man from his seat — even smacking his head against an armrest as they wrestle him to the floor before dragging him off in a humiliating scene. According to United, four passengers were selected at random to be removed from the full flight so that a four-person United flight crew could get to Louisville and meet a connecting flight.
The man, who United eventually allowed to return to the plane, claimed to be a doctor flying to Kentucky to care for patients. “Flight 3411 from Chicago to Louisville was overbooked," said a United spokesperson. “After our team looked for volunteers, one customer refused to leave the aircraft voluntarily and law enforcement was asked to come to the gate. We apologize for the overbooked situation.”
