Jose Ernestor da Silva was quickly pulled from the waters by brave beachgoers, who weren't immediately aware of the extent of the damage done by the vicious man-eater looking for prey on the Northeast coast.

“The shark bite amputated his femur and his penis,” said ambulance medic Wagner Monteiro on the scene, adding: “He lost a lot of blood and is in a critical condition.” Sadly, the teenager would be dead just hours later.

The 18-year-old suffered a heart attack shortly after arriving at the Aeronautica Hospital, followed by another as he was being prepared to be transferred to another medical complex. His mother revealed that Jose hadn't told her that he was traveling to the dangerous beach.

“He would go in secret, said Elisangela dos Anjos, “because he knew that I thought it was dangerous. I wasn’t worried because I thought he was somewhere around the house. When I heard about it, I went crazy. All the neighbors heard me screaming.”
