But some people are just happier to know what happens in the movie, and we've crammed in all of the major plot points to save you some valuable time. Get in on the conversation and save yourself a few hours at the cinema with these "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" SPOILERS....
DON’T EXPECT MUCH LUKE SKYWALKER!
DON’T EXPECT MUCH LUKE SKYWALKER! The first line of the opening crawl is: "Luke Skywalker has disappeared." That's no joke. Mark Hamill is barely in the movie, and doesn't have any dialogue. We don't know how he kept a straight face while appearing on the red carpet at "The Force Awakens" premieres. Luke has disappeared after trying to teach a student named Kylo Ren the power of The Force, with Kylo then rushing towards the Dark Side. Nobody can find Luke until the very end of the movie, when he's tracked down by an aspiring Jedi Knight named Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) — who's probably Luke's daughter, but we won't learn that until the next film. Also, it turns out that R2-D2 was the only "person" who knew where Luke was hiding, and the robot spends most of the movie deactivated until Rey comes along.
THE NEW CHARACTERS
The plot starts with a pilot named Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) who's a freedom fighter against The First Order (who were known as The Empire in the original "Star Wars" movies). He's captured by Kylo Ren, but escapes with the help of a Stormtrooper named "FN" — who Poe calls "Finn" because that's easier to say. Poe disappears for most of the movie after Finn helps him escape. You're supposed to think he's dead after a spaceship crash, but Poe returns to save the day. Meanwhile, Finn and a young woman named Rey (both pictured above) team up to stop Kylo, who works with General Hux for a bald bad guy named Snoke. Kylo loses a light-saber fight to Rey at the end of the movie. THE NEW CHARACTERS: Rey's new to The Force, but she's a quick study. That's why people think she's Luke's daughter. Anyway, Kylo lives to come back and cause havoc in the next "Star Wars" movie.
CHEWBACCA ISN’T AROUND MUCH, EITHER
CHEWBACCA ISN’T AROUND MUCH, EITHER: Rey and Finn steal the Millennium Falcon from a junkyard, which gets the attention of Han Solo and his old pal Chewbacca. Shortly afterwards, Chewbacca gets wounded by some bad guys and sits out most of the movie. Rey takes over as Han's co-pilot while they try to destroy a new weapon used by The First Order that's called the Starkiller. It can blow up planets. Really, the whole "Force Awakens" plot is a lot like the first "Star Wars" movie. The good guys even blow up the Starkiller in the same way that Luke and R2-D2 blew up the Death Star back in 1977.
AND SOME OTHER STUFF…
AND SOME OTHER STUFF…C-3PO is back, and now sports a red metal hand. The movie never explains why. Everyone will be talking about the robot BB-8 and how he can give a "thumbs up" by using fire. There are also two Stormtroopers who back down from fighting Kylo Ren and get the biggest laugh in the movie. Han Solo also cracks up the audience when he suggests throwing evil Captain Phasma into the ship's trash compactor. Lupita Nyongo'o plays Maz Kanata, who's mostly covered in special effects and is a mystic Yoda type who says cryptic things. We don't learn much about Finn, but he ends up as Rey's love interest — even though he spends a lot of the movie in a coma after a fight with Kylo. And the last line of the movie is: "May the Force be with you." Leia says it to Rey (who's probably her niece) before the wannabe Jedi Knight leaves to find Luke Skywalker in the wordless closing scene.
HAN SOLO IS DEAD!
HAN SOLO IS DEAD! Yeah, Han Solo is dead — and that's a pic of it happening in the movie! Kylo Ren is really his son Ben, from Han's marriage to Princess Leia. That also means that Kylo's grandfather is Darth Vader. Kylo's a really big Darth Vader fan who's determined to follow his grandfather's vision of ruling the universe with an iron fist. Han Solo is sent to try and reason with his kid. The producers don't kill Han off too soon, but they make sure you know that Han is truly deceased. Kylo stabs him with a light saber, and Han's body then falls down a shaft to land at the center of a planet. Then the planet explodes. We guess Han could come back in a sequel as a ghostly presence like Obi Wan-Kenobi in the original "Star Wars" movies, but we doubt it. Harrison Ford wanted the producers to kill Han off back at the end of the first "Star Wars" trilogy. The "Star Wars" star finally got his wish.
