MSNBC star Rachel Maddow may see her profile rise even higher, because ABC’S "World News Tonight" with David Muir (left) has toppled NBC’s "Nightly News" with Lester Holt (right) in the ratings — sparking talk Lester could be booted from the coveted anchor chair!

Lester, who replaced Brian Williams in 2015 after his suspension for on-air “misrepresentations” tarnished the network’s reputation, had been on a ratings roll from the get-go — but was recently toppled from his number one spot. “Holt has scored well in the key 25 to 54 age group, but overall Muir is drawing in nearly 300,000 more viewers,” notes one critic.

“With momentum moving in Muir’s favor, I wouldn’t be surprised if NBC made a move to stop the show’s slide before it goes too far," an insider told The National ENQUIRER. "And Maddow would be the obvious choice.”
