Those were the startling claims made by Jo Jo Laine, the ex-wife of former Wings guitarist Denny Laine — who blasted Denny's former boss and
his wife Linda as tightwads about everything but marijuana!

"When we were on the tour bus," recalled Jo Jo, "it had an open top. We would smoke pot as fast as we could as we were approaching a border. When reaching the border, we had a little ritual — we would throw handfuls of pot through the top of the tour bus. Hundreds of dollars' worth!"

"On the 1975 tour of Europe," added Jo Jo, "we were crossing a border, and they put a bag of grass in their daughter Stella's hood. She was only three at the time. Denny said they did that a few times. Can you imagine if they would've gotten caught? They could afford to buy a bag of grass in a country they were in, but it's difficult to get it in Europe."

Before his death from an overdose in 1979, Wings guitarist Jimmy McCullough — second from left, next to Denny — had spoken of similar incidents. "Paul and Linda used their kids like this several times," he said. "It stinks, but that's Paul and Linda for you. Living for the moment, never allowing such an insignificant thing as conscience to get in their way."

The McCartneys would end up having several run-ins with the law over pot — the most famous being a 1980 bust after Wings had broken up, and Paul was jailed for nine days in Tokyo after trying to slip 10 ounces of marijuana through customs. Paul even had his Scottish farm raided in 1973 by police who confiscated marijuana plants.

Stella survived her childhood to become a successful fashion designer. Jo Jo, who passed away at the age of 54 in 2006, also found a positive side to Paul and Linda's constant toking. "They always had good pot," she recalled. "They were nicer people when they were stoned!"
