Olivia Newton-John has revealed in a bombshell new memoir that the “incredibly worried” pop star hired her own private investigators after her longtime boyfriend Patrick McDermott’s mysterious disappearance in 2005. The U.S. Coast Guard issued an official conclusion that McDermott had “most likely” drowned on a California fishing trip. The struggling star, however, says in her new autobiography “Don’t Stop Believin’” that Olivia finally had to consider that the bankrupt cameraman had actually faked his death to avoid paying child support to his former wife. The once-secretive diva reveals she brought in security expert Gavin de Becker “to send a couple of his private investigators to Mexico to certain places Patrick had talked about.” Olivia also revealed that she believes McDermott could have escaped to his native Korea. But that’s all after The National ENQUIRER reported in 2016 — 11 years after his disappearance — that McDermott had been seen working on luxury yachts in Mexico!

Olivia had been with Patrick McDermott for nine years when he disappeared during a 2005 fishing trip off the California coast. The heartbroken songstress spent years in mourning while investigators looked into his troubled finances. But then the ENQUIRER investigation in 2016 produced eyewitnesses insisting that McDermott was working on luxury yachts south of the border!

The ENQUIRER showed an old photo of McDermott, posing with Olivia, to Nuevo Vallarta port officer Emilio Oyarzabal Garcia — who confirmed that he'd seen the man! “Yes, I saw him,” said Emilio. “He has shorter, darker hair now, though.” Nuevo Vallarta harbormaster Hector Medina added: “It’s easy for people who don’t want to be found to work on the boats.”

Sources in the Mexican boating community said McDermott had been working on a luxury yacht for a deep-pocketed family who offered anonymity. One private investigator spent years tracking McDermott’s movements, and said he frequently sails down the Mexican coastline before heading for South America via the Panama Canal.

Olivia went on to marry John Easterling in 2008 — with The ENQUIRER later learning that McDermott had broken up with Olivia “24 to 72 hours before his disappearance.” A source said that he had told her assistant, “I can’t do this anymore. I don’t like how people take advantage of her, and she doesn’t listen to me."

That might have made things easier for the heartbroken pop star, and the U.S. Coast Guard closed its investigation in 2008. Olivia admits in her book that she'll “never really know what happened” — but adds that she's grown close to McDermott's ex Yvette and his son Chance. “Yvette believes that Patrick would never have left his boy,” Olivia wrote. “I agree.”
