A native of Winnipeg, Canada, Monty was playing around as a boy when tragedy struck. “We were putting a chair on top of a rocking chair near the stove and knocked over a boiling pot of soup,” recalled the star. “It landed right on my head!” Monty was rushed to the hospital with third-degree burns over his upper body and face. “The doctors wrapped me in large bandages, leaving just a little opening for my nose and mouth. I was in agony!”

Monty remained a virtual mummy for more than a month, while his parents lived in terror of what they might see when he would finally be unwrapped. “My mother and father prayed silently while the doctor removed the bandages,” said Monty. “When he got them off, everyone screamed — in delight! My face was flawless, like a newborn baby’s!”

Monty, who never forgot this incredible gift of life, went on to give back during his long career, raising more than $500 million in telethons, auctions and tennis tournaments. “I am thankful for the miracles that happened to me,” said the “Let’s Make a Deal” legend. “So I was happy to help sick and needy children and the elderly.”
