Mark has kept friends fearing for his health while taking on new duties as
executive producer on both “NCIS” and
“NCIS: New Orleans.” Said one insider: “Mark needs to rest and take time for himself, before he ends up just like his dad” — with Tom Harmon dying at 70 from a fatal heart attack in 1990 after winning a golf tournament at the Bel-Air Country Club.
Now relieved insiders say that Mark is ready to give up his role as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The 66-year-old actor has been working without a renewed contract, but claims he has “no problem” saying goodbye to the estimated $700,000 he earns per episode, a source said, adding: “Mark is set for life. It isn’t about the money for him. It’s about the kind of life he wants for himself and his family.”
Mark has already used his clout as a producer
to have Gibbs moved to a desk job when "NCIS" launched Season 15 in 2017. Former "That '70s Show" star Wilmer Valderrama has also been introduced as a new character. Mark's also turned down any non-"NCIS" roles since 2011, with friends saying he's ready to tend his home for former
"Mork & Mindy" star Pam!
“Mark may play a tough nut on TV,” said the source, “but his fans would laugh if they saw how soft and what a devoted househusband he is in real life. He loves doing normal household chores like vacuuming and ironing. Their house is spotless. He bakes bread for her while she goes out — and he even does the cooking!”
Mark and Pam celebrated their plans for a new life by renewing their vows in an intimate backyard ceremony for their 30th anniversary in March. The “NCIS” star is also preparing fans for the big change. “The show could survive without me,” he said in a recent interview. “Eventually, all things must end!”
