The body of
David Gest — who enjoyed fame for his 16-month marriage to
Liza Minnelli — was found in his room at London's Four Seasons hotel on April 11 , 2016. Police said there were no "suspicious circumstances" behind the death of the 62-year-old producer. He had been forced to leave "Celebrity Big Brother" earlier in the year over health concerns.
Gest married Liza — currently suffering her own health crisis — in a lavish showbiz wedding on March 16, 2002. The couple (seen here at their nuptials) were officially separated by March of 2003. During those years,
The National ENQUIRER had plenty to cover from the couple's wild antics.

In exclusive interviews, Liza told The ENQUIRER that she was enjoying "the best sex" of her life with David — and the couple turned to The ENQUIRER when they sued the VH1 television network for a reality show that went wrong!
But the marriage that began with a toast from Michael Jackson ended in a very ugly battle! David was the first to walk out of the union. Within months of leaving Liza, he filed a $ 10 million civil lawsuit against her —claiming she had beaten him so badly during drunken rages that he had brain damage!

He stated in court papers that her physical abuse had left him in "unrelenting pain," and that he needed 11 prescription medications a day. Liza denied David's claims and filed for divorce. "I never hit him. It's rubbish," said the singer. She then filed a $2 million countersuit against David, 55, claiming that he stole from her and verbally abused her.
In one of his most sensational charges, David said his 5'5" wife — who already had artificial hips and was
often confined to a wheelchair — savagely beat him after screaming at Gest in front of a hotel manager. But when contacted by The ENQUIRER, the manager said there was "no such incident."

Sources also told The ENQUIRER that Gest wasn't suffering "head pains" from Liza's flying fists. They said he was suffering recurring problems from a hair transplant! In his shocking 12-page lawsuit, Gest even claimed that heavy drinking gave his wife extraordinary strength — a charge medical experts classified as "nonsense."

Liza's friends continued to insist that she was the victim in the ill-fated union, saying that she suffered from extreme mental abuse at the hands of a controlling Svengali who turned her life into a cabaret of horrors! After years of mudslinging and legal wrangling, Gest's lawsuit was dismissed in September 2006. Their divorce was finalized in the spring of 2007.
As revealed by The ENQUIRER, Liza was left desperate for work. The final settlement was never publicly disclosed, but an the insider insisted that the divorce cost Liza "millions of dollars." Desperate to pad her bank account, Liza agreed to a series of concerts at the Palace Theatre in New York City in 2008.

The series of shows was a huge hit, but a shadow hung over Liza's success. Her mother — the iconic Judy Garland — had made one of her last appearances at the Palace in 1967. Two years later, Judy was broke and died of a drug overdose.

"Liza doesn't want to revisit what happened to her mother financially in her last days," a source said at the time. "The Broadway paycheck is all cash, so she won't have to wait to be paid!"
