John Travolta Roughing It At 63 Years Old

John Travolta is in Alabama filming a movie about backwoods racing — and the big 'n burly star looks the part even in a suit!

 The controversial star — who's recently packed on the pounds — got all suited up for a gala charity event hosted by the production company behind "Trading Paint," where John's playing a veteran race car driver going up against his son in a dangerous competition.

As seen here, John's looking especially rough next to costar Shania Twain — who's joined him in shooting the new movie in Birmingham, Ala., and nearby Hueytown — home of racing legends like Bobby Allison, Neil Bonnett and Red Farmer.

 Travolta's also made it clear that he didn't have to get worried about getting into shape to play his character — with the racer showing a far different look than the cleaned-up movie star!
