Jamie Lee Curtis has gone public with her secret opioid addiction — a decade after The National ENQUIRER revealed how the struggling star had been reduced to stealing drugs from family members! “I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic,” the “Halloween” star told People. “I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one.” Officially, the star has credited the tragic death of doomed rocker Prince for giving her the courage to reveal her own drug battle. But even before that, Jamie Lee had come forward to warn others about addictions to painkillers. The star had bravely revealed how she had turned into a desperate pill-popper over her depression after plastic surgery that included liposuction, Botox, and an eye job. “I would anesthetize myself on a daily basis,” Jamie revealed. “I found painkillers did the job without the messiness of alcohol!”

Jamie Lee had her disastrous cosmetic surgery in 1993 after a cameraman criticized her looks on a movie set. "I had fat taken from underneath my eyes because I was puffy," she told a reporter. "I remember the cameraman saying,' I can't shoot her now.' I was mortified!"

After going under the knife, said Jamie, "something went wrong. I felt misshapen, just not natural anymore." The worse she felt about herself, the more drugs she took. She started to withdraw from her children and her actor husband Christopher Guest. And when Jamie Lee's sister Kelly, who needed medication for a broken bone, was a house guest, the star actually pilfered her pain pills!

Jamie Lee later wrote a letter of confession to her sister, saying: "I've been harboring a secret, a bad secret for the length of your stay. I have found and taken many of your Percocet and Vicodin. I've betrayed you, and I know that you're angry, and you have every right to be." But, added Jamie Lee, it finally took her adopted daughter Annie to set her straight.

In 1994, the then 8-year-old girl told her drug-addled mom she needed her to start acting like a real mother. "It was a little girl's cry to her mother, who just wasn't there physically or emotionally for her," said a close source. " Jamie Lee realized that drugs were closing her off from her whole family."

"That cracked it," said Jamie. "Then I got sober." But, the actress added, she still had to keep fighting temptation. When
her movie-star mom Janet Leigh was dying in 2004, Jamie Lee recalled, "There was a lot of medication around. The little bottle of codeine in the bathroom — don't think I didn't see it!"
