Gloria was a regular presence on the screen through the '40s and '50s, and then took on television roles in the '60s. "I'm a damned good actress, but I desperately need a break," Gloria told The ENQUIRER. "I'm haunted by my past. They still think of me as a singer and dancer, and they won't consider me for any good parts." Gloria had stayed busy with nightclub engagements, but felt blacklisted after she took a stand in the 1950s and began to turn down roles in musicals.
