Evan's dad went missing on May 1, 2012. A film-distribution exec at 20th Century Fox, he was last seen leaving a female friend's house in Ventura County, Calif. His decomposed body was found on October 26, 2014, by hikers in Palmdale, Calif.

Evan's family had been holding out hope Gavin would be found. In February 2013, investigators had located the exec’s car in a storage locker that belonged to John Creech (left). By the time the body had been found, Creech was already in prison on eight-year sentence for an unrelated drug charge.

Investigators established that Chandrika Cade, Creech's estranged wife, had been in an on-and-off affair with Gavin since 2008. On May 1, Creech had confronted the lovers, beating the Fox executive to death in a jealous rage, and then disposing of the body where the hikers later found it (left).

Cheech was sentenced to 11 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter, and Evan said at the sentencing that the death “turned [his] life upside down. I suffer from PTSD now because of this man in this courtroom,” he said, adding that John “savagely ripped my dad out of my life.”
