Dan Haggerty, who played a tough mountain man in the hit ’70s series “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams,” passed away from cancer at the age of 74 in 2016. But the rugged star told The National ENQUIRER back in 1987 that he should’ve died much sooner! “I’ve made my mistakes and I’ve paid for them,” Dan admitted to The ENQUIRER while looking back at his battles with booze and drugs — along with being busted by the LAPD as a big-time cocaine dealer!

The ENQUIRER was there when Dan became the biggest name busted by cops who went after Hollywood's cocaine industry! Dan, then 41, was arrested June 13, 1984, at his Beverly Hills home and charged with the sale of a total of about 18 grams of cocaine — worth an estimated $2,150 — to undercover agents on two separate occasions. At the time of the arrest, LAPD spokeswoman Margie Mastro said: "Haggerty came to the attention of narcotics detectives during the course of an ongoing investigation into the suppliers of dangerous drugs and narcotics to the entertainment industry."

Friends and insiders confirmed at the time that Haggerty's life and career had been wrecked — partly because of Hollywood fears that the former television star's arrest was just the start of an investigation that would eventually lead to even bigger names being arrested! "Grizzly Adams" had been canceled after just one season in 1978, but the actor had been able to make a few TV-movies featuring the character. By 1984, however, friends complained that Dan was "a mess" at auditions and had been reduced to making personal appearances — and was even selling "Grizzly Adams" T-shirts out of the back of his van at flea markets just to make a buck, said insiders. His beautiful wife of 24 years was also suing him for divorce, while the IRS was investigating him for income tax evasion.

"This man had everything," a pal told The ENQUIRER at the time. "Money, a hit show, a loving wife and a zest for life. Now he's got nothing. Nobody would touch him in Hollywood with a 10-foot pole!" But a repentant Dan sat down with The ENQUIRER in 1987 to declare that he had "hit rock bottom" and "was fighting his way back to the top!" The actor would continue to work regularly in low-budget productions — and never settled down too much. Dan's biggest mourners include notorious Nevada brothel owner Dennis Hof. The "Grizzly Adams" star was frequently found hanging out at Dennis' Moonlite Bunny Ranch!
