David had previously gone public about his family history of dementia in 2012 — after his mother, Evelyn Ward, passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's at the age of 89. Insiders also told The ENQUIRER that David was covering up another health crisis — as arthritis made it impossible for him to play guitar onstage! "It's hard for him to stand or move around for a whole performance anymore," said an insider — adding that the arthritis is "so bad that playing the guitar has become almost unbearable!" But the real extent of David's health problems was shown by how retirement affected his wallet!

At the end, he couldn't even manage short appearances alongside other aging acts. His last bankruptcy papers tragically read: “While he still loves performing for his fans, it is more difficult to travel...due to his health.”
