Christie Brinkley and rocker John Mellencamp are officially broken up — just weeks after The National ENQUIRER revealed that the supermodel had decided to stay single! Insiders said that Christie, 62, was too worried that heavy smoker John — who’s already suffered one heart attack — could drop dead of another killer cardiac attack at any moment!

The couple had broken up before, but kept getting together — and a pal told The ENQUIRER that John wouldn't give up on walking Christie down the aisle. “John thinks dating should lead to a wedding, but he’s having trouble convincing Christie!” the source spilled.

“After four divorces, she’s had it with marriage," dished the source, "but John’s putting on the full-court press.” But, said an insider from Team Christie, the blonde beauty was also furious over John's commitment to cigarettes: "She worries about his health, and she doesn’t want to be a widow!"

John's heart can't be helped by the stress it takes over his fondness for city gals! The final straw with Christie ended up being the same problem with his long stint dating Meg Ryan. The rural rocker isn't kidding about being a country boy!

“He’d rather be at his lakeside home in Indiana than hanging around in New York City ,” dished a friend of John’s — who added that Christie wasn't looking forward to another Christmas where John would join his family in Indiana instead of jetting out to New York!
