After skyrocketing to super-stardom on TV’s “Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,” Cher filed for divorce from Sonny in 1974 — and the real story behind their split is finally coming out! Cher fell for a musician in their band, and broke Sonny’s heart!

“Her affair with the guy went on behind my back,” Sonny wrote in his autobiography. “When I found out, the news hit me like a ton of bricks.” He also revealed the “Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves” sexpot was a cold fish in bed!

“Cher was a lousy lover — virtually dead in the bedroom,” Sonny — who died at age 62 in January 1998 in a tragic skiing accident — once said. “During our years together she had very little interest in sex. She was attracted to me as a father figure more than anything else.”

The shocking tell-all discloses that Oscar winner Cher — who dropped out of high school in the 10th grade — was a “kooky ditz,” adds the insider. “Sonny said, ‘Cher had some of the strangest ideas I’d ever heard in my life. For instance: Cher was so dumb, she actually believed the sun was the opposite side of the moon!’ ”

As for her career, Sonny wrote that he felt he never got the credit he deserved for making Cher a star! “He says Cher was so panic-stricken with stage fright that the first time they performed together, he had to stand behind her and push her on stage!” tattled our source.
