“They’ve made a choice to focus on their family and there’s hope that this will be a fresh start.” Carrie has made no secret of the fact that she would love to have several more children — although she now believes it may be too late.

“I’m 35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family,” she said days before announcing her pregnancy. “We always talk about adoption and about doing it when our child or children are a little older.”

Carrie and Mike endured a marital crisis earlier this year when he came out of retirement to sign a one-year contract with the Nashville Predators. Pals considered his decision incredibly selfish: It came after Carrie suffered an accident in November and needed more than 40 stitches in her face.

“The recovery was really tough on Carrie and it didn’t help that Mike was off playing hockey for a lot of it,” the insider snitched. “There are whispers that the real reason Mike went back into retirement was because he found out Carrie was pregnant again. He knew that it was make-or-break for them.”

Now, with Mike returning to daddy duty and Carrie fully recovered and planning a tour after she gives birth, the couple is finally back on track.

“They had a rocky patch,” added the insider, “but ultimately they’re committed to being a family and sticking together. “They’re thrilled to be expecting and everyone just hopes this means they’ve got their spark back!”
